Scalp Psoriasis
Causes of Hair Loss in Scalp Psoriasis
Inflammation:
The inflammation caused by psoriasis can damage hair follicles, leading to hair loss.
Scratching:
The scales and plaques of psoriasis can be itchy, leading to scratching. This can damage hair follicles and further promote hair loss.
Treatments:
Some treatments for scalp psoriasis, such as topical corticosteroids and oral medications, can also cause hair loss as a side effect.
Telogen effluvium:
Psoriasis can trigger a condition called telogen effluvium, where a large number of hair follicles enter the resting phase (telogen) at the same time, resulting in temporary hair loss.
