Female Pattern Baldness (FPHB)
FPHB is primarily caused by a combination of genetic and hormonal factors:
Genetics:
Women who have a family history of hair loss are more likely to develop FPHB.
Hormones:
Androgens, such as testosterone, play a role in hair loss. In women with FPHB, the hair follicles become more sensitive to androgens, leading to hair thinning.
Symptoms:
FPHB typically presents as:
Gradual thinning of hair, particularly on the top and crown of the head
A widening of the part
Hair follicles becoming smaller and producing thinner, shorter hairs
May not affect the hairline at first
